hey guys, i've been challenged to go to the track this weekend and see what my times are. do you guys have any ideas what i might run?
crate 454 with stock intake and cam
edelbrock proformer carb
duel exahust w/ n o cats
th350 automatic with 3.70 rear end
fairly new 255/60 r 15 coopers .
i know this is a shot in the dark but i thought you guys just might be able to help. thanks in advance....
With your weight and horsepower a good estimate can be made. For more accuracy, you'd need to know RWHP, altitude, temperature, and barometric pressure.
the elevation here is 3254' above sea level. the temp. is supposed to be in the 70. the barometric pressure is 30.2 inches and falling, and i dont have a clue on what the rear wheel horsepower is. heck i dont even know what horsepower the engine is supposed to put out. or where to look for that mater of fact. the engine has a casting numer 14015445 on it. All's that means to me is its a big block from the late 70's or mid 80's. (i think)
i was challenged by a new v6 mustang, and from the amount of stickers and japanese writing on the car i figure he has at least a 1000 hp (ha....)
I have as fast as 11.783 @117.27 with real good air. Can run 12.2's all day long. But if I hit it to hard off the line 13's. I just have to start off easy to about 10mph then hit it and make it up with on the long end. With street tires you just haveto take it easy with a lot of Hp. A little tire spin will cost you a lot of time.
do you guys now anywhere i can look to find the estimated horsepower for my engine? also any other tips for me? i am always willing to learn. sorry i have so many questions but i have never done this kind of thing before.
A ball park GUESS would be high 13s. Assuming you have a a standard 8.5-9.0 PSI 454 with no mods. I easlily ran 13.5s with my 73 454. Most important is to let your tires down to 16 lbs or so , no lower, but no higher than 20. If you spin on the line you lose time... break out easy then punch it. I use this technique and win a lot. Go to the track with only a 1/4 tank. :flag
You should have absoultly no problems at all with a v6 mustang unless hes using huge amounts of nitrous or a blower and even then you should beat him. I raced plenty of those cars back when i had a v6 camaro. :chevy
