Default need shifter advice

I want to put a ratchet-type shifter on my '72 w/T400 trans. Is there something that will bolt right up in the original spot? I was looking at B&M but they all seem to have a base type deal on them. Also is there anyway to have some type of gear selection indicator (so you can see what gear you're in) if an aftermarket shifter is mounted in the original spot? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you guys have any suggestions, I could use part numbers. Thanks!

I just removed a hurst quarter stick from my '68. The previous owner had drilled holes next to the original opening to install it, and he cut the shifter plate as well because it was a little off to the right. The shifter is pretty much brand new, and I still have the plate as well. PM me if you think you could use them.

You can kinda see it here. It's the best shot I had while it was still in the car.

That looks cool. Does that fit down thru the original shifter slot, or is there a base on that Hurst bolted to the console? Also is that a ratchet? I really want something for drag racing purposes that I can just hit to advance one gear without worrying about mishifting. Also do you know anything about gate shifters? I guess I'm not sure how they differ from ratchets. Thanks
