Default C4 LT1 heads on L82

Hey guys, a friend of mine is refreshing his L82 motor from a 1980 'vette and is considering installing the LT1 heads off of my '93 C4.

Is this a common swap, or is it more trouble than it's worth?

EDIT: Please note that these are the aluminum LT1 heads from a 1993, not the 1970's LT-1 heads. All of the searches I did mention the old LT-1 heads...want to avoid confusion.

Is it necessary to switch to a reverse cooled design to cool the aluminum heads first?

How do we get coolant to the heads? The stock intake has a coolant inlet port, but the Edelbrok carb'd LT1 style intake does not.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

I didn't read the whole write up, but it looks like it has been done before. Not sure if it is worth the trouble with the welding and all.

It's possible, but it's a PITA. I'd only do it if you're going to use an LT1 manifold for a fuel-injection setup. Otherwise, there are good, affordable heads that will bolt right up.

Talk to Durango Boy. He has done it, or is in the process.

Looks like adding the new coolant passages is the major part. You have to weld closed the old ones and bore new ones in the front.

I'll see what durango boy has to say...

Thanks!

Durango got the idea from me.

If you really want to know what's involved, send me a PM or email and I'll dig up my scans of the only article I've ever seen on the process.
