I was cleaning the Quadrajet off of my '79 (carb off the car), when i noticed that a small brass tube had dropped off the carb onto the work bench ...problem is, i have absolutely no idea where it came from?
I've had a good look over the carb and i can't see anywhere obvious place for it to fit ...i'm guessing it fell out the top when i turned the carb over, but i can't be sure.
The tube is approx 3.5cm long, and 2mm diameter.
It's a long shot, but does anybody have any idea where it might go?

It's one of the 4 emulsion tubes that are pressed into the airhorn. Just put it back into the corresponding hole and give it a light tap with a rubber mallet.
Ok.. i've had another look, and i'm still a bit stumped
I'm looking down into the four barrels of the carb (is this the air horn?..im not that familiar with the propper terms:-) ...but i can't see anywhere that this tube would fit...or any others like it still in place?
Skeets... If you haven't opened up the carb, this is obviously an external part. It sounds like a vacuum tube to me. it should plug back into a hole somewhere in the carb housing or baseplate.

I think Lars is right and he assumes you have the air horn off (the top part), but if you don't that would explain why you don't see the others. Maybe it fell off inside and then managed to fall out through the vent when you turned it over (with the air horn on). If you are not knowledgable about putting it back together, I would suggest you get help first - it can be tricky and you can really damage it.
I'm wondering if perhaps (as rich suggested) the tube fell off inside and then just dropped out when i turned the carb upside down?
and yep..i also thought it might be a vacuum pipe, but i just can't find any hole that it fit's in, anywhere externally...and also, the carb was pretty grubby on the outside, and this tube was perfectly clean?
I might try re-fitting the carb and see what happens ...if it's an important part, i'm sure it will become obvious ...in which case i guess it will have to come apart (or get someone who know's a bit more that i do to do it!).

If it fell out when you flipped it over, it's an emulsion tube. It feeds the secondaries. You will not immediately notice the problem running the carb. You need to take the top (the "airhorn") off the carb, flip the top over, and insert the tube. The secondaries do not operate correctly without it.
i took the top of the carb, and inside i found another of the same sized tube's just loose and sitting in the bottom of the casing...so i stuck that, plus the one that fell out the top, back into the two holes on the underside of the carb top.
I've got the whole thing back together again, and hoping everything's back in the right place
If this carb still works i will be VERY pleased
Thanks Lars, and everyone else for your help. I should get the carb back on the car tomorrow...and then i'll know if i did everything correctly or not! ....possibly the car might even run better, now that i've re-fitted the two emulsion tubes
