Im having a hell of a time installing the starter in my car. Whenever i have everything connected there is a major short.
I took the starter off right now. It has 2 posts and a spade terminal. The one post is the cable from the battery and the other red 14ga wire. The spade is supposed to be the wire that goes to the ignition switch. And i am not using points so the other one is disconnected.
Is the above correct?
Now with the starter off i get continuity between that spade connector and the rest of the starter body. Im assuming this is what is causing my short. Or is this supposed to be like this?
You should have some resistance on the solenoid terminal, like < 2 or 3 ohms. Your meter may be interpreting this as a short, which it is not. If you are reading < .5 ohms, it probably is shorted internally.
