Default high rpm distributor

So, I'm looking for some suggestions as to a distributor for my dad's car. He's running a 283 that he twist 9k in... Does anyone have any preference or advice for or against any particular distributor? He has to stick with a small cap due to clearance and he is running an accel super coil right now.

I'd suggest a mallory unilite w/ a mallory coil pn 29219. The cap is small w/ female terminals and that particular coil acts as a ballast resistor for startups. depending on the model u can get dual magnetic pickup or infared pickup. That particular coil puts out 58,000 volts too, its the hottest coil i've found. Those two and some spiral suppression core wires and you'll have a hell of an ignition. And if thats not enough msd makes an ignition controler conversion to run MSD boxes on unilites I've heard lots of racers say a unilite w/ a MSD box is the best combo they could find.

An MSD billet distributor with a 6AL box will turn any rpm you want. In additional it allows you to electronically set a rev limit so you you won't spin the engine 3000 rpm above where your want it to rev.

I thought some people were having bad luck with the 6AL? I always thought it was nice, but then I heard that they go bad alot... Do you have one? If so, have you had any trouble with yours?

My Vette Used the optical Mallory for 10 plus years without a failure. I prefer the Crane digital multispark/rev limiter boxes over anything that MSD puts out.

I have setup several friends crank trigger MSD units.

Now I have the MSD E-courve with a Crane coil and H6R box.

Tell your Dad to sell the 283 while it is still running and get a real motor:lol Because those old small journal cranks are only going to do 9000 rpms a few times

I know this is bringing up an old thread, but which mallory distributor would be better? the optical with the mechanical advance or vacuum advance, or the magnetic(5048201)? He doesn't really get the vehicle out much, it was his high school car. He's having ignition issues all of a sudden, and I'm trying to talk him into a nice mallory distributor and a box with a rev limiter. As far as lasting, the motor has lasted since the 70's. Granted it's been rebuilt a few times, it still holds together.
