For the longest time, my '68 was idling around 1100. Did the simple adjustment and got it down to the 900-1000 range - ran great, that day. The following weekend, all it would do was stall every time I came to a stop. I tried adjusting it back - no can do, was still stalling.
Well, tried it again the next weekend and I have gotten it back to around 1400 (any where below that it will stall). But at this level the rpm's will fluctuate down to 1000 and up to 1900. It is being very tempermental now. Any thoughts on how to get it steady and accurate again? Fot what it's worth, the carburetor is a Holley.
Thanks!!!!
Unhook the vacuum advance, make sure and plug the line with something (a golf tee works good) and check your idle timing, not sure on your '68, but most are about 6-8 degrees BTDC.
Then plug the vacuum advance back in and set your idle where you need it (auto or manual) and see if the stall problem goes away.
The best advice I can give you is to start with Lar's paper and start all over. Basically, transfer slots at .020", idle mixture screws one turn from seated. Timing 12-14 initial with vacuum disconnected, 32 mechanical advance in by 2500, total mech. and vacumm advance at 50. I may be off a degree or two but that should get you in the ballpark.
