Default Anybody try Year One's Crate Engine...

Part # CT350PC1
400hp, 400tq, 2990 plus freight.
1yr,12k warranty.
Dyno tested with printout.

http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/p...26DK73488&trk=

Seems like a lot of bang for the buck - has anybody had experience with this engine?

Yes, I bought one last year and just got it on the road with about 200 miles on it so far. So far it has been great!! I am pleased with the horsepower at least for now

There where a few problems fitting the motor. Hood clearance with my stock 78 hood, I could not use the 1'' spacer that the motor was dyno’d with, had to use new throttle linkage and so far I have not figured a way to hook up the cruse control diaphragm. I had to add a vacuum reservoir for the power brakes and the headlights come up a little slower due to the 12 inches of vacuum at idle.

Yeah I agree, I'm suprised more people haven't went this route.
Any more success stories lingering out there?

I am almost wondering if its BS on the HP numbers though...

9.5-1 compression, 218/228*@.050 cam and vortec heads....to me that seems like a 350-375hp motor but... who knows...a ZZ4 has less cam then that and crappier flowing heads so I guess 400hp is not TOO much out of the relm of possibility.

I just wish some how you could run regular valve covers... I hate the centerbolt valve covers..

You can also get a 400hp, steel headed 383 from T&L for $3200, and thats dyno tuned on YOUR motor, not just a pattern motor. But it seems its taking forever for them to get motors built and shipped so.....pick your poison.

Yeah, I was really wanting to use T and L but I cant even get them to call me back after leaving a message to inquire about a motor. They are super busy especially this time of the racing year I imagine. I am going to call year one this afternoon and go for it.

As for the centerbolt valve covers, are the gasket dimensions the same? I have never worked w the vortec heads before, might it be possible to create locations for first generation bolts to go through?

I am under the impression that each individual engine gets broken in and dynoed by Year One's builder, is this incorrect?

I would think IF the dynoed YOUR engine, it would be good to go...my guess is, they don't dyno every one they build. I bet they dynoed a couple of them to get the ball park numbers but I doubt they dyno and tune every one, especially for $3k.

Well I have been told there is someone who makes some type of adapter that allows you to use old 4 bolt square pattern valve covers on the center bolt heads. I have never seen these adapters though.

They dyno every engine that ships out. I have only seen a few that dyno below 410 hp, and every single one is at least 400hp.

Take a look. The dyno sheet seen here is an example, but each engine comes with it's own sheet.

If you're interested in replacing center bolt valve covers with the perimeter bolt type, there are adapters made to do so. They are a skeleton frame that bolt to the center bolt holes in the heads, and has perimeter holes for the valve covers to attach to.

I know Jegs carries them...Summit Racing likely does as well.

I looked at them but I think there GM Crate motors with a year one part number. I was able to get my motor cheaper from GM parts dept.
