I am a little confused on the springs .Lars said to use 2 gold springs on HEI units. Are the gold the heaviest springs in the kit. They seem to be heavier than the stock springs.Or does it make a difference with the stock weights being used.

The gold are the lightest in the kit. I ended up using one gold and one stock spring which gave me 36 degrees mechanical advance at 2,900 RPMs. Like Lars said, every distributor will be different and you'll need to run and check the timing each time you change springs.

Put the springs between your finger tips and pull gently and not too far. You will easily see which is the lighter springs.

Well the kit that I have the black springs are the easiest to stretch then the silver and the gold is the harder on to stretch. The black one has less coils and is very thin.
