Default Where does this line go?

On my 72 I have a line that originates off the top of this cannister on the driver's side fender. The line with the red clip in the center of the photo next to the yellow stripe hose is the one I'm refering to.

Anyway the line originates off the top of this cannister (I'm assuming a vacuum cannister) but it's other end looks like this...

It appears to be broken off but I can't find anywhere it should attach. My headlights and wiper function fine. I do not have power brakes or power steering. Can somebody tell me what this line is for and where it goes?

Thanks for any info.

Your carburetor, if original Q-Jet,should have a port on the top plate to receive this line. It is at the front of the carb., by the thermostat housing.

That canister the line with the red clip is hooked to is the charquol canister. The vacuum tank is the little square tank above the round one.

I don't have the stock Q-jet. When I purchased my car it had on a Holley Street Avenger 670 which is still my current carb. I haven't had any problems with this set up. What is the purpose of the charcoal cannister? Do I need to reconnect this fitting to my new carb somehow?

That canister is to receive gas tank vapor. Its an emissions thing. Its intended to contain the tank vapor until you start your engine at which point engine vacuum will pull that vapor from the canister into the manifold to be burned. Depends how radical you are with the term "environmentally friendly" if it really matters or not. I took the canister out all together myself.

Ahhh, thanks for the info. I think I'll just leave it disconnected for now.

On my '73 theres a large line and a small line comming off the Charcol canistor, the small line goes to the carb, think it's some kind of vacume sensing controll line, and the large one goes to a T common with the PCV valve to the Carb large gulp Vac hook up at the base of the carb, front base of the holley. There should allready be a line hooked up to the PCV valve there.
