I love my side pipes and headers. Like was said before, they'll discolor quick, especially the headers and the pipes around the collectors. Eh- it's the cost of looking cool. I salvaged them off of a 77 parts car that I had a while back, so the cost was negligible.
There's a spot on the back of both of my calves that won't grow hair anymore since I got burned way back when I was about 10 on my dad's 68 convertible. He eventually went to the off-road under car exhaust because he was sick of getting burned. Now I have them on my 70 coupe and I wouldn't change them for anything. My wife is 4' 9 1/2" tall and has a tough time jumping over them. All it took was one time hitting the pipe and now she remembers to jump every time.
For polish... Mother's is what I use.

My uncle had the side pipes removed from his 72' he claimed they took away from the beauty of the coke bottle design. Also said they had to be constantly painted.
