Does anyone know what this battery cable looking thing is?
I'm putting my '79 Corvette back together after a two year long restoration project and now I have this cable left over:
I haven't started my engine yet, but when I put the key in the ignition, everthing works (fan, radio, wipers, lights,...). If I had to guess, I'd say its some sort of ground going from the engine to the frame, but I don't really know where to install it. Any ideas??

Definitely looks like an engine ground. I'm not sure where it was mounted, I don't think my 77 has one. All you really need to do is find a bolt on the engine and a bolt on the frame that the wire can reach.
Engine Block to Frame Cable. Don't try to start the car w/o it in place. I replaced mine with a same length battery replacement cable. If your missing this one, check the hook up of the - Batt cable to frame one too.
Its the ground cable. It runs from the upper starter mount bracket to a bolt, nut and star washer that bolts into a hole in the side of the engine mount bracket welded to the frame. The cable is shown in the Electrical Section of the AIM.

You beat me to it. I'm REALLY slow on the keyboard.
Passenger side, below the exhaust on the engine, goes to the bolt holding the bracket for the tail end of the starter on the frame.
Agree. Another question regarding starter wiring - on my 75 I have two smaller diameter wires that are connected to the starter on the same post as the positive battery terminal - can some one verify this is correct? I have an electrical gremlin burning up components and I am wondering if one of these wires should run to the previously mentioned ground posts. Thanks in advance!
