I have a 72 vert and like the way the chrome rack looks on it.
I don't like them as well on coupes however.
Just a matter of owner preference.
I had a friend remove the rack on his vert. All you have to do is fiberglass in the holes and paint.
I think they count off for a luggage rack for NCRS judging. Since the C3 did not come from the factory with a luggage rack - at least the early C3s did not.
Thanks for the info. I was refering to a coupe. I can not believe that was such a popular option. It seems like about half the c3s I look at have a rack installed. Is there still room to stow the t-tops if you do not have a rack?

Yes a lot of people buy a bag to store the tops in and stow them behind the seats in the storage area. I took the rack of off my black '77 coupe and LOVE the way it looks opposed to having it.
The rack was an option in 1977 and was installed at the factory as option code V54. The racks installed at the factory also included brackets and strap for attaching the roof panels to the rack. Also if the car came from the factory with this option, you did not get the storage bags, you got the carrier brackets instead.
Only the chrome racks have the pins for retaining the roof panel brackets in place, the stainless ones do not the pins.
In 1980 through 1982, the code V54 option was available as well and was a roof panel carrier for those three years.
