I just got my 69 tuned this weekend with the idea of taking it to the body shop. I did not have the time to do it myself with all of my extra time going to the National Guard. First the guy charges me an arm and a leg, then he left greasy fingerprints all over my primer, then he takes a marker and writes 427 on my air cleaner, and then 69 on the back of my vette. But to top it off my water temp gauge is not working and on the way to the shop (25 miles away) I notice that it was getting kinda weak, about a half of a block away it just wants to die, and it does with some black smoke. It did not want to crank over after that. It turned, but just did not catch. What do you think it is and should I rip the tune up shop a new one.
Man, I'm sorry BUBBA got his hands on your baby...I'd be pretty :mad myself...and really tempted to use my "application of force" knowledge from teaching at our firing range this past summer. ;)
First thing I'd do? Get with someone that can fix the prints and marker...and charge BUBBA for it. Next? Check the electrical connection for the temp sender in the engine compartment (on the driver's side, just behind #1 on my 350).
Most important: Take pictures! Document everything...hopefully you had pictures of the car before it got screwed with.
[edit] Do you still have the parts to the original sidepipes for your '69? [/edit]
What the H E double hockey sticks would possess him to write on your car with a marker. WTF?!!! Was it grease pencil that can be wiped or cleaned off? I know you're going to get it painted but still. WTF?!!! I'd rip him a new one just based on that. There's no excuse for carelessness. On the issue of the engine not running, I'd find out what's causing it first. If it had anything to do with his work, rip away. He probably forgot to tighten the distributor clamp down if he's that careless.
Sorry to hear that a Bubba mechanic is in your shark pond. He probably either knocked the temp wire off of the sensor or broke the wire. Check your points and be sure they haven't closed up on you. He probably didn't tighten them enough.
Well guys thanks for the input. I called the guy and was being some what nice since I was in my civ job this morning. He claims that he could not get the parts for the choke and that is what is wrong with the car!! I will call where the car is now and ask them to have the carb shop next door to come and look. The body shop left me a msg a few mins ago stating that while they were cleaning the grease they found a big foot print on the front fender. Oh, the marker was perment black, and the 69 was bic blue. What the He**!!! Yes, I still have the fact pipes, they have been sitting out side but I think that they still have GM tape on them. I have the fact big block exhaust mans, and smog as well. Let me know if anyone is interested.
