I just bolted the heads onto my motor last night. I’m pretty excited as
this is my first engine build. I followed all the books step by step and
did not take any short cuts. I also have a few neighbors with lots of
wrenching experience. The next step is to adjust the valves and bolt the intake on. I have been posting and asking questions for a long time and im excited to finally post some of my own work. I’ve been collecting parts for about a year and a half haha.
Im running vortec heads, the powermax 272, Performer RPM manifold, Holley 750, hedman headers, Mallory HEI distributor, and arp fasteners. I do expect it to fit under my 73 hood. I will make a post about that when I get that far. I have learned so much about engines by reading books and actualy building one myself. There is no substitute for experience. Still much to learn!
looks good.....especially for your first build....it's very rewarding doing it yourself for the first time...and you can say, "i built it." even if it's a small build you still get some respect from other car guys...my first motor build was/is my 383....probably not the best one to learn on with just learning about the diff in stroke clearances, micing everything, etc.....but i did learn a lot in the process and it runs great!
Thanks for the kind comments! I will post more pictures here in a couple of weeks after I get everything buttoned up. The next step is to adjust the valves. Im still reading on how to do that. It looks pretty easy and then once I have the engine running I can take the valve covers off and double check to make sure I did it correctly. I think im going to break in the cam on the engine stand with a radiator/guages and a big fan hooked up to it.
