Default replacing throttle cable, too long?

I have replaced the original throttle cable in my '73 with a GM replacement. It appears to be about 4 inches too long. I have a Holley DP on a performer intake. When I use the original bracket the cable has a severe S in it and it looks like it will bind. Any suggestions? I have looked at the Lokar setup but I want to try to get this to work as I am not a good contorsionist for getting up under the dash. Thanks

I went directly to Lokar when I replaced my cable. It is a cut to fit cable and worked pretty good. Using there cable you still have to come up with a bracket that will hold the cable.

Sorry I cannot help with the GM cable, hopefully someone will chime in with a better answer for you.

that's holley's adjustable throttle cable bracket. i'm using it with the stock length cable on my '78 with no problems. it's a little pricey, but it's a real nice, high quality piece.

I'm having trouble getting a throttle bracket for my 4150/4160 Holley that's mounted on a ZZ4. I'm trying to use a 1968 (327/350) throttle cable. Can someone say that a 78 and 68 cable are the same?....or at least have the same mechanism for attaching to the carb throttle lever?
Thanks

The original throttle cable for a Q-jet carb is too long for a Holley carb.

If you want an original GM cable, then get the one for a '70-'72 LT-1.
It's shorter. (Listed in the parts manual as "Special High Performance")

There was also a Holley only bracket that was used on the '70-'72 LT-1's
however I suspect it has long since been discontinued.

If anyone wants pictures of the bracket/cable, let me know and I'll take a few.

Thanks! You're correct. The original throttle cable is a little bit too long. Also, I have discovered that Dr. Rebuild has the GM part sold as a LT1 throttle cable bracket. However, the GM part sold is not exactly the same as the original LT1 bracket. (I looked at a LT1 at a car show.) The GM replacement part (now discontinued) has a straight flat vertical surface that restrains the left side of the throttle cable metal cylinder. The clamp piece has a V groove stamped in it that restrains the right side of the throttle cable metal cylinder. You have to really tighten the clamp bolt to prevent the cable from moving up and down. The original LT1 bracket had a V groove stamped in the bracket vertical surface so that the throttle cable bracket was sandwiched inbetween the two V's; one V on the left surface of the clamp and one V stamped into the throttle bracket vertical surface.

Thanks that may explain a lot, I had the holley on it before with a wiend intake and it worked, but now that I think about it the one that I took off looked different, while it was the original cable I think it was "bubbafied". Think I will go with the Lokar, if anyone needs a new replacement throttle cable let me know!
