Default Power Accessory Wiring...

I am currently installing a DeWitts Radiator w/Dual Spals on my '79. I also plan on installing an electric water pump sometime down the road. I thoroughly enjoy the cleanliness of an engine bay when the only thing turning from the crank is the Alternator and PS pump. I would like to eventually move the alternator to the passenger side, and move the PS pump a little higher (for asthetics). But I digress...

What I am hoping everyone here can help me with is a good, clean way to install all these accessories. I have seen the Painless wiring kits for Aux Fuse Boxes... but What I am really looking for is a "Main" battery feed (I was thinking from the starter?) to a Power distribution block. From there I can pull "Hot" for my various relays and mount all relays right next to this block. At that point, I would only need to run an ignition hot line to the relays to get them to kick on while running. I think it is sound, but I know I have seen pics in the past of other vettes that have really nice Aux Fuse boxes in their engine compartment.

Would anyone have any links to these pics? Or any recommendations on a clean way to install these accessories?

Thank you.

I have the same basic schematic as 6' there, any decent tech would in reality, but my execution leaves a lot to be desired, because my car has grown over 12 years from being dead stock underhood to this tech monster under there, and so it's things put on/in/under one or two at a time, and so it's pretty kludgy looking......patch on patch sort of thing, I have made some recent attempts to straighten it out, but do wonder how long this latest attempt will last before yet another wire/mod takes place, then it's off and running yet again....

I think of it as a rolling test lab....

The design is sound, but how would one go about actually building it? Ideally, I think it would be neat to have an enclosed plastic box with the components in it, only wires leaving. But you are both doing exactly what I want to do. The only relays I am planning on (including growth) are:

Electric Fan #1
Electric Fan #2
Aftermarket Horn
Electric Choke
Fuel Pump
Water Pump

I was thinking that if I had some kind of aftermarket "Relay Holder" that I could plug in 6 relays to, that would be perfect. Essentially, All these relays need a direct power feed and the "relay box" could have a simple power buss that they could all draw from (fused of course). Then the only wiring to each of the relays would be the "activation" wire depending on the application, most would be just ignition power to trip the relays and supply power.

I don't know if I'm making sense.

i couldn't seem to find any aftermarket stuff to help me - i took a piece of flat sheet metal, bent to shape, painted, screwed all of the relays, etc. onto it, and mounted to inner fender (drivers side) using rubber isolators. had to have the wheel off as well as the canister to access from below. it's tucked in so well that i can't really get a good pic. it you look at "my pictures", and see where the red insulation shows just in front of the master cylinder, this is about where it is located. nobody ever sees it unless they lean over the fender . . .

I stold this idea from BJ, going to improve on it and make it pretty, laid out more or less the way the schematic is drawn
I like the idea of a closed in box, but haven't looked hard to find one, so I will probably just use one like this. The Electric choke power can come from here, nice and neat

Gad, man, IF I had wired kludge electronic chassis like that some 25 years ago, I woulda been FIRED on the spot, changes or not, I had to make it look SO pretty the customers never knew....

course then again, my car looks the same, so does my truck,

and the boat.....

Okay... after much searching... I found a site where someone created exactly what I am looking for. I am going to build it using the same materials. Here is the URL... http://www.theblossers.net/index.php?section=11

There are some pics on this site... here is one...

Basically, Fuse Box from Cabellas (it is true, I checked) and a radio shack project box to house it. This is the clean look I am looking for. I am going to order what I need and work on it in the upcoming weeks. I'll post some pics as soon as they are available.
