Replacement Carburetor for Q-Jet
Hello. The original Q-Jet on my 1980 Vette (Auto tranny, L-82) is shot. I've had it rebuild and still very poor performance.(As a test my local machine shop let me borrow and try a carb they use on the dyno -the car ran great!) I want to replace it but keep the existing manifold. Any recommendations? I 'd appreciate some suggestions (and NO, I don't want to replace the manifold -I just had it remilled and the engine rebuild top and bottom end.) Thanks! JG700

Any Q-Jet can be rebuilt and set up to run correctly. I've never seen one that has been "shot" other than carbs that have been physically damaged or altered. If yours did not run right after rebuild, the work simply wasn't done right. The Q-Jet will run as well as, if not better than, any other carb on a stock or near-stock engine. Just needs a correct setup and correct jetting for the application.

All good advice! I have an 81 that I bought with an Eldebrock, I have a quadrajet I intend to put on as soon as I can get it rebuilt. The Eldebrock is going to be my plastic trash can anchor to keep the wind from blowing it away! Stick with the Quadrajet!!
