I am in the assembly stage of my rebuild. I put on an aluminum timing cover to replace the bent up original. ]
Now I have a problem with the pointer sets out too far past the front of the balancer. I have seen a few 20+$ pointers but I just need something solid but inexpensive.
By the way I have an 8 inch balancer.
Re: Need timing pointer replacement suggestions (Rhys)
My new balancer has timing to 60 degrees even though I use an adjustable timing like to check vacuum, mechanical advance.
Just can't seem to find an affordable pointer.
Re: Need timing pointer replacement suggestions (BLT-71)
We used to figure out where TDC was and mark the timing cover, then spot weld a pointer so it lined-up with the dampner mark. With a non-steel cover you can maybe use JBweld or something.
Re: Need timing pointer replacement suggestions (KenSny)
My Fluidamper is also marked. I took the original pointer and ground it to a point at the 0 degree mark. I use this to point at the degrees at the balancer. Cost me nothing just a little grinding time.
Re: Need timing pointer replacement suggestions (BLT-71)
Sometimes you just have to explain to the kids why they don't get any food today! Or if thing really cost alot no beer for Dad. I have a $25 pointer from Summit. I have one of those chrome tabs with plus and minus ten degrees that just used two cover bolts to hold it down. Those are probably only a few bucks.
