I did some more checking. It looks like most C3s, large or small block, had aluminum radiators. If you have A/C, then they were brass. Tom D. can probably provide more accurate details.
As far as I can tell, most C3 radiators were copper as was mine in a 1975 L48. I believe only a few high performance early C3's were aluminum.
Even without the fan shroud, make sure you seal up between the radiator and the support and between the support and the hood. A front spoiler can also helps to channel the air to the radiator.

Z-man..... where did you find that info ?
I'm not aware of the standard use of aluminium radiators in C3's from the factory ???

This would apply to 68-72 small block, base cars only. If these cars had no air, no auto, and no option engine, then it got the aluminum radiator. If the 68-72 sb had any of these options or any combination of them, then it received the 26" copper radiator. That includes L46 or LT1 cars. All C3 73-82 had copper/brass radiators.

I like this aluminum radiator. Never goes over 185. It's an AC car but naked from the firewall forward. I need to look at filling that space in the engine compartment in. I'm in TX too so it's vaguely possible that I'm a heatsink for the engine. 97 today.....
Are you tripping? I'm running a stock water pump with my northern factory aluminum radiator and I can't even get the thing over 200 after beating the tar out of it at autocross.
Same here.... I used to worry about the engine being too cool.
