Default Convertible deck lid spring,..Need install advice

On my 73 convertible, I had to remove the driver's side deck lid spring to remove a frozen cage nut at the number four mount. That was hard enough but I'm now having a problem re-installing the spring.

What's the trick?

Please tell me there's an expensive tool that's needed,..I have all this extra money to get rid of.

Thanks!
Wes

Pry bar or very large screwdriver did the trick for me,putting the springs on was no problem. Now,removing and installing the hinges themselves was anther story...

Buy some some wood wedges at a home improvement store. These are the kind used to shim doors and windows at installation. They don't cost more than a couple of bucks for a whole pack.

Then bend the spring back and forth to spread the coils and insert the wedges in between. As you work the coil back and forth inserting the wedges as you go, the spring will gradually expand untill you can put the spring in place over the hooks on your deck lid hinges without even having to stretch it. Then you just pull the wedges from in between the coils and the spring will remain stretched in place.

No flying springs, cut hands, eyes put out, or even cussing.

I just wish it was that easy to bolt the deck lid hinges back in place. THAT was a pain!
