Default Speedo cable/***'y question

Guys, need a little help...

My 75 4spd is in the shop getting various things fixed. My speedometer quit working about a month ago so I asked them to take a look at it while they had it. According to the shop, one of the things that broke is what they are calling a "ratio adapter" that goes in between the speedo cable and the fitting. They are telling me that this part is a stock item, but GM has discontinued it so they are having a hard time finding a replacement.

I am at work so I haven't check my AIM yet, but every diagram I can pull up does not have this part referenced. They have the speedo cable connecting directly to the fitting that goes over the speedo gear into the transmission. Do any of you know what part this could be? And where I could possibly find a replacement?

I appreciate any help.

Maybe what someone put on the trans prior to you owning it is a CABLE DRIVE ADAPTER. Not a factory item. It does take a bend out of the cable making it last longer. Speedometer will work without it. Other than that I can not understand what they are talking about.

Yeah, when I mentioned just connecting speedo cable to the fitting he said it wouldn't work because it's not a one to one ratio. Being that the only thing I know that changes the ratio is the gear, I am at a loss.

I could not find anything in the parts and illustration book catalog.
I assume you have the Borg Warner 4 speed manual Transmission. My 73 has the Muncie 4 speed manual transmission and it does not have a ratio adapter. I did install the 90 degree adapter so the cable would have a straighter shot at the connection.
I just finish looking at my 73 Assembly Manual and it does show several adapter’s but just one a .8883 ratio for the four speed M20 M21 transmissions. It was used with a 3.70 differential ratio

These links are some posts I found talking about adapters.

This one might help you out.

Here are a couple of Ebay links that are for adapters.

Thank you Jc3vette for all of you help. After looking at my assembly manual I have found the adapter but I am unable to find the ratio as all of the GM part numbers are blank for this part. I should be able to call the shop tomorrow and find out what letter code is stamped on the old adapter to continue my search.

Again, thanks for taking the time to look into it for me.
