Default Power Door Locks Questions

I have a 79 vette with power locks. My door locks are inop. I noticed that on the driver's side door the grey wire has come apart from the connector. The driver's side door lock will not lock or unlock manually with the key and is very loose when the key is turned in either direction. The passsenger door will not lock manually but will unlock manually. When the power locks work, the passenger door still does not lock manually and it is hard to turn. Is this normal with power locks? I plan on replacing the lock hardware, and lock cylinders to manual operation only along with the left door handle as it sags. I found the broken, spring (the cheap replacement sping some use) Please submit new replies other than 'Do a search in the archives' Already done that.

went through the same thing with my 79, door locks were inoper. manual and elec., i disassembled both door lock mechanisms. everything was rusted. cleaned and greased all the rods and door latch mech., replaced one of the elec. door lock actuators (they have them at oriellys), repaired one of the wires on the drivers side switch. and everything works great now. elec. and manual. but i very seldom ever use the manual. even bought a remote door lock kit from jc.whitney. and wired it in. makes it even easier to lock the car now. just dig in you'll see whats wrong once you get it apart. usually just rust and dried up grease.

Default power actuator interchange

i figured i would dig up this old post of mine
regarding the door lock actuator interchange.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ght=power+lock

GM used the same actuator in most cars from about 76
all the way to some vehicles in 2000.

also if i remember right the door locks work in series
so if one isnt working the other side wont work either.

by the way if you cant manually unlock the door with the key then you definitely have a bad actuator on that side you can see how bad mine were here

and herehttp://hometown.aol.com/coronet69/page1.html to see the replacements i was able to pick up from the u-pull it 4 for $12 and genuine GM
from a grand am
