Default Please help my identify a part

Hello,
On a 1979 C3 with HEI ignition, can anyone tell me what the following component is? It is a small cylindrical electrical part that is about 1-1/2" long by about 1/2" in diameter, and plugs into the distributor.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thankyou.
Best Regards,
Jim
