On my 1975 the heater blower motor still runs in the off postion, I konw GM cars and truck do this same thing. When it's 95 deg. out this realy sucks. Now for the question, has anyone ever wired in a on/off switch to the blower motor to shut it off? And yes my switch is in the off postion, but still blows very slow.
It's probably not just the blower motor that's warming you up. There's a lot of heat coming in your car from the fiberglass firewall and from under the car. I suppose you could add an on/off switch, just make sure it's not "bubba-fied".
That's the way they were from the factory. I've never heard of anyone re-wiring the fan. Like guitarcrazy says - it isn't going to help much. You would be better off getting rid of the heat - insulation, sidepipes, etc.
Can't you just take the top down? or take off the t-tops? Drive a little faster!
as far as the blower motor running all the time, there is a factory installed wire under the console from the switch to a hot wire, i think its the cig. lighter. wire. that powers the fan, its as simple as cutting that wire to make it stop. mine was broken off, i resoldered it and the fan now runs at low speed, all the time when in off and the key switch on, like its supposed to.
Years ago a friend’s dad spliced the blower motor wire and added a toggle switch to cut all power to the motor. (In his gm truck) and it worked. I've unplugged the wire before but then I have to hook it up for the ac to blow air. It's coming from the vents for sure, as for the heat from the fire wall etc. that’s not too bad. As for taking the t-tops off and going faster that does not work, I tried that last night at 90 mph the wife did not like that. ha ha.
