Default gage cluster questions

ok I got the heater/AC working now

and interior instrument lights aswell as the wipers.
wiring is now to the print. bubba has screwed it all up before.
only thing that still isnt working is the fuel gauge.
still pegged to 4 oclock position.(was working before i removed gage cluster)
even after filling the tank to see if it moves but it didnt.
one thing I did notice is the clock has 1 terminal and a 12 volt power wire is attatched aswell as a black wire going to the gage cluster metal backing plate?
this cant be right?
the metal backing plate ohms to ground.
the wiring diagram doesnt specify whats hooked up to the clock.
pls help.

The black wire that grounds to the housing is right. If the other gauges seem to be working and the gas gauge doesn't, trace it back to the tank.

Ok today I shorted out the tan wire off the sending unit (unit looks new btw)

still gauge reads the same
ohmed out the sending unit and read 90 ohms.
I also made sure i was using a good ground.
next I found the 12 pin connector (near drivers side kick panel)
and ohmed out the tan wire from the back (still connected)
read 30 ohms.
grounded out tan wire at the connector and still gauge reads same.
So im assuming either.
A: broken connection between connector and gauge
B: gauge is bad
still havent found out the corolation between the seat belt warning and the fuel gauge yet.
Seat belt warning isnt on the wiring diagram?
thks for all the help so far btw!

I show a 12pink coming off ign switch but I think its a supply for acc.-not for the coil or dist.

ther's a black wire (as you mentioned) that goes from one end of the fuel tank gauge resistor that goes to the seat belt warning circuit board. i have no idea what it's for. according to the schematics it's not even supposed to be there! i measured 65 ohms from ground to that wire, but still couldn't figure out how it affected the fuel gauge. i checked the 70,71,72 wiring diagrams and none showed (as far as i could tell) the black jumper. the fuel gauge circuit seems to be totally separate. ??

No need for pics lol. I was totally wrong on my previous post and deleted it because I was thinking about the temp gauge.Sorry
To test your fuel gauge turn your key on 12 volts at pink wire, make sure the case of the gauge is grounded, now ground the terminal with the tan wire attached to it.Needle will go to empty. If it doesnt the gage is bad or not installed correctly with the resistor in mind.
Sorry to all for the mix up.
