Ive got a 79, and im losing vacuum pressure at the point where the air comes out of the large tube-like tank that runs the width of the car just behind the headlight actuators. The hose comming from the carb into the tank has pressure, but when I pull out either of the two hoses coming out of the tank and into the splitters for the headlights, theres no pressure. What can be done, seeing as that large tank cant be removed (at least not easily).
Would it be possible to bypass the tank and just split the hoses to go right into the actuator control? Any thoughts would be great.
No Matt, you need that reservoir of vacuum. By "pressure" I assume you mean suction.
Find the leak and repair it.
You do need to fix the leak. But actually you can bypass the tank but you wont have any reserve vacuum to get the headlights up after you shut the car off.
Before you decide its the tank block the 2 outlets leave the line from engine and let the engine build up vacuum in the tank and see if it holds it.Your vacuum leak could be in the relays or actuators.
