Default Carb thoughts/opinions

OK, here is the background. The 81 I just bought is all stock with the exception of headers and a 600 Holley carb. I did receive the original CC quadra-jet with the car. With the Holley, you cannot run the stock air cleaner due to hood clearance. My question is, should I find an earlier carb and due away with the CC one, or get it built and put it back on? I do want to run the stock air cleaner. I have no experience with the cc carbs, but have heard some grumbles from people I know. Any thoughts?

Get it rebuilt if it needs it and put it back on (the original) Its a fine carb and will run you up into the serious HP range. The bottleneck for HP on that motor is exhaust and heads and cam. Stick a fancy air cleaner on if you want, but keep in mind that the original is designed to use all those plastic ducts to pull Cool air in from in front of the radiator. Just changing the air cleaner to a fancy open one may even hurt your performance, but it will look good with the hood up

Mine is the original dual snorkel with a factory chrome lid, so I would like to put that back on. Looking through the catalogs here at work and found all the ducting to be still available. That was the biggest reason for ditching the Holley.
