My 75 coupe doesn't haev any seatbelts in it and as Ia m getting closer to getting her on the road I need to look at getting some... All the components are missing on mine... All the used ones I see are in pretty bad shape and I am not sure if I want to spend $400 for replacements... So I was wondering if anyone has put the racing seatbelts that are in jegs in there vette with stock seats and how it came out. Also is it true that the seatbelts from the most recent camaro will bolt right in?
Yeah, the guy who I got to fabricate my floorpans in races a 94-95 or somethin like that z28 camaro, so he had a roll cage and 5 or 6 point harness... I was just bsing about how I needed seatbelts now and he was like shoot I have a pair laying around here somewhere... a week or so of him searching and 40 bucks later I have a good working pair of working seat belts. (use the rear seatbelts out of any firebird or camaro after I think 93) And I am using the front inside belt clips, because they are longer.
Edit: I know some of the racing harnesses that are 5 or 6 points require a submarine bar and more modification. I would just go F body belts....

Do you have any pictures of the install? I'm looking at adding shoulder belts to my '68 convertible but don't want to modify the car. Anyone else try adding shoulder belts to a 68?

Yea just did it, no modifications to the car required other than cutting a small hole into the carpet to get at the bolt hole for the sholder belt. Read this post: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1751335

I put the Camaro belts in my 75.75 bucks they work great, but I mounted mine on the top of the wheelwells where the stock belts go. I don't know why this quote instead of the quick reply showed up tried it a couple times oh well!
To install:
1. Remove seats
2. Pull back carpet from under seats
3. Remove plastic cover
4. Remove retractor
5. Remove seatbelt support bar (this holds the seatbelt out from under the seat by the sill.
6. Remove the rear quarter side panel.
7. Remove the shoulder belt retractor cover from the quarter panel.
8. Remove the retractor.
9. Reinstall the quarter panel.
10. Bolt new retractor in place.
11. Remove the old receiver and attach the new one.
12. Remove the buckle from the seatbelt.
13. Flatten the bracket that will go under the seat (this part is L-shaped and needs to
be straight to bolt to the floor).
14. Slip through the hole in the seat and the carpet (place the seat and carpet in but don't bolt in place yet).
15. Reinstall the support bar and bolt the bracket to the floor (the hole in the bracket
needed to be opened up a little for the bolt to fit, there is no retractor under the seat)
Make sure the seatbelt will lay correctly when it is connected to the receiver.
16. Replace carpet and seat (the plastic cover is no longer required).
17. Reinstall the buckle to the seatbelt.
The seatbelts have more room than the originals did which helps when
my 250+lb. friends get in to go for a ride.
you might want to check out seatbeltsolutions. i bought mine from there and they are great. they have single and dual retractors for a little bit less than places like ecklers and others.
Mike,
thanks for the heads up. I checked and both of the rear reinforcement plates are there and in good shape. The factory plastic plug for the hole was still there too! I'm going to try the 93 and up Camaro belts and see how they work.
