Default quiet mod for electric fuel pump

so my carter puts out max pressure at idle. seems dumb to me.
1. noisey
2. heats the fuel
3. will wear out faster than necessary
4. max pressure raises the float level, could contribute to a rough idle or stalling on fast turns & braking.
so i plan to add a lever switch to the carb, and a 25w 3 ohm resistor to the pump, dropping it to ~6v.
at idle and low speed it gets ~6v.
at ~40% throttle the switch gives it full 12+v.
Cost would be about ~$3, but i have the parts in my junk pile.

I have a bellows style electric pump that will actually shut off when the pressure peaks. Basically the pump thinks when the pressure peaks that the bow; if full and the float it maxed. It shuts off until the pressure drops considerably again.

It's a great pump unfortunately it's a Summit generic and it's not made anymore.

I have found in history the way to deal with it is a 2-3 ohm resistor about 20 watts in series with the pump, it sees ~9 volts as I recall, but yes, the Carters will knock the seats off a Qjet needle easy...as I recall they did something like 8 psi, and a Q can only stand ~3-4 psi....
going off really old memory here, I remember using a large surge protection resistor from some old color TV years ago with my Carter pump, it kept a 550 ft lbs Pontiac 462 happy towing anything, anywhere at 80 mph up....cheeeeeep gas, nice times...

Or you could add a return line and put the regulator right at the carb. That way you'll always have the coolest fuel possible going into the carb.
