New post - If I need to replace front control arm bushings now, would I be better off in the long run to have more suspension work done at the same time? Any recommendations for a good shop in the Elk Grove, CA area?

I assume you are not trying to go authentic. My son purchased a ZZ383 for his 90 IROC Camaro. The car is a convertible (so fairly rare). He wanted to make the car perform similar to its appearance. With the addition of a procharger supercharger and other suspension modifications it performs and does well on gas until his puts his foot into it. On the highway with the tall gears it gets 23-25mpg. Not too bad for the H.P. For the record, I have a 72 LT-1 and cannot keep up.
I see Summit Racing Equipment sells a BluePrint GM 383 CID Vortec Dressed Stroker Crate long block rated at 405 hp. I fear it won't fit under my hood with its Eldbrock 750 cfm carb. How can I tell, i.e., what question or measurement should I be asking for? Thanks.
Where are you located? I've got the 350 that came out of my 71 coupe 350/270 hp. I put a small cam and an edelbrock intake on it at rebuild. Its been out of the car for quite sometime now in my heated and cooled shop. Its as clean as it was when assembled, It was bored .030 new pistons referbished crank and heads, still got the polished vette valve covers on it. It probably has 1500 miles on it at the most since rebuild. I'd take $1600 for it but its just barely more than stock I'm going to quess ~300-325 hp. Its located in SC if your interested. Good luck

It should easily fit under your stock hood. Most if not all street carbs are the same height (Dominators may be slightly taller). The measurement you're concerned with is the manifold height; anything taller than an Edelbrock Performer may not fit without a drop base air cleaner.
Can anyone suggest a source for a long small block if I'm interested in max hp unit to replace my 350ci/270hp frozen motor?
Can anyone suggest a source for a long small block or alternative if I'm interested in high gas mileage (blasphemous, I know) unit to replace my 350ci/270hp frozen motor?
Reliability is paramount. Thanks in advance.
Can't beat a GM create engine. 290 HP for about 1500 bucks. You can also buy a 400-425 HP Edelbrock create.
Several good motor suggestions so far. But if gas mileage is a real concern, You may want to consider an over drive transmisson, like a 200r4 if you have automatic or a 5 or 6 speed manual w/od to replace your manual trans. Upgrading the engine to later style fuel injection can also provide some improved fuel management, but you won't get quite as much top end HP as with a carbureted setup. There are lots of forum members that have done these upgrades, so search the archives and talk to the guys that have done it to see what fills your need and desires.
