Does bleeding the brakes with the check valve bleeders work as good as power bleeding. I have a 70 vette with new SS lines, hoses, master cyl,and calipers. I have a high pedal but you have to push so hard to get it to stop, its a little mushy but I think thats because of the silicone fluid. I'am going to try bleeding them again to see if that helps the first time we used the two person system.I had a 68 years ago with out power that always stopped easy. I cleaned the proportioning valve before I put everything back together, I noticed the 68 has a different part# could the 70 be more restrictive? Any ideas
Not exactly sure what you've got going--pedal hard and mushy?--but I had simular problems when I replace everything at the same time as you appearently did. The 2 problems I encounted were that the rod to the master cylinder was not adjusted correctly (some mc's have different ends on the piston, and some of the rods from the power booster to the mc are shaped different, so that they may extend more or less into the mc. One of the joys of using rebuilt parts that may or may not be correct, but will work after you screw with them) and the piston wasn't moving past the ports correctly to pass the fluid. The pedal was real hard, but the brakes barely grabbed. I never got any good info on what the correct adjustment procedure is. Just trial and error. I do remember that you can look down into the mc when someone works the pedal--SLOWLY, so as not to splash fluid all over-- and you can see the piston move past the port, and may be able to see fluid moving. Also, I believe the "proporting" valve can upset when bleeding and block off 1 circuit of the brake lines. Then you would be trying to push fluid down a closed line. There is a procedure to reset it to a neutral position. I don't remember exactly how to do it, so I won't guess and mess you up more. Look at any Haynes or Chilton manual, and they will detail the centering process. Good luck.
I had the same problem after using the brake bleeders with the check valve. Found that one of the 6 brake bleeders had a bad check valve.
Vent over to the normal metod. Afrend with a wrench on the brake bleeders, while pushing the pedal.
