Default 427 Build-up ideas

I've got a stock 390hp 427 in my 69 RagTop and it needs a rebuild. The engine is matching numbers and I'd like to know what people here have done to get the most HP out of it while still keeping the original block and heads. The car is nice, but no trailer queen and I plan to drive it hard. I have considered pulling and bagging the engine and putting in a Worldproducts 540, but am concerned about all the hassels this will result in. What has your experience been.

Pull the 427 and bag it. Install the 540, no hassles. If you break your number matching block, your value goes waaaaaaaaaaay down.

I agree- if all these hi-po crate motors had been available when I went through my rebuild, that's exactly what I would have done. If you get a 540 you'd better plan on beefing up the entire drivetrain, including the rear end. There's a guy that has been mentioned several times here on the forum that's supposed to be "the man" when it comes to building up the rear end but I can't remember the name of his business. I'm sure somebody else has that info.

If you really want to stay w/ your 427, feel free to email me for details on what I had done to mine- too much to list on my sig.
