Default 700r4 convert help

Hi all
I'm a new member, I'm french, I speak too italian an spanish, but my inglish is very bad.
I have my 78 since 4 years, and I'm gonna leave my 350 and put an 700r4 whith Bow Tie Overdrives. I have a mild performance L82 whith 3.08 rear gear and 245-50-16 tires. What do you think about this ratio for my car? Have better?
On Bow Tie site, thei talk about a wiring harness connected at the brake pedal switch. What's that switch used for? What can I do to manual locking on 2nd and 3th? They talk, too, about a switch lock up, where connect it?
Thanks for any help and advice

I think a 308 rear ratio is just fine, unless you want max acceleration for drag racing, for european streets it's fine,...so leave it alone and savy your money time and effort....

on the lockup, as you hopefully know, there is a voltage input to the lockup function, it should be wired through a relay to interrupt the 12 volts from getting to the tranny when the brake pedal is pressed/used.....the switch brake light switch acts just the opposite though, so you need the relay to change the voltage in the opposite way.....to apply to the tranny input wire...
the tranny has 2-3 switches activated by the hydraulics inside, on the brain...they act on the OTHER end of the lockup soleoid wiring...and ground it...allowing the converter to lockup in 2-3-4 gears only....sometimes just 3-4 gears, depending, MINE happens to be all 3 gears....first gear is never allowed to have lockup apply....so the overall wiring is easy, really...
I have computer fuel injection on my car also...and a switch on the console to decide wether the computer and internal switches, or just internal switches will controll my lockup....a stock setup would be with ALL lockup being controlled by brakes action....then further decisions on the ground side being controlled by the internal switches, AND then the computer.....

personally i would not want a 3:08 rear gear with a 700r4,final drive ratio in a 4th gear would be 2:16,GM generally keeps the ratio in the 2:60 range, mine is 2:48 with 3:55 rear gears, but that's just my opinion.
without a computer chances are lock-up will only occur in 4th gear, this lock-up can be accomplished with a vacuum switch off the intake manifold. i bought a switch and wiring kit for a 700r4 from TCI,ordered from the Jegs catalog,$72. i bought a Bosch relay from bowtie od,that hooks to the brake light wiring,so when you hit the brakes, lock-up stops. it all works very well, the only thing i had to do was adjust the vacuum switch because in some certain situations,lock-up was going on and off on the highway, usually up a long grade.the other problem i had with bowtie od(i got my tranny there) was there was no wiring instructions with the relay, thank God my brother fiqured that out,and bowtie od at that time offerred no wiring harness or instructions or HELP on activating lock-up,their instructions said to have all wiring issues resolved before calling them to test the tranny. that's why the TCI kit was purchased, which required a simple re-wire of the tranny so it would work with the TCI components.good luck, you'll like 4th gear, does France have autobahn type highways like Germany???

Welcome to the forum I noticed this is your first post. Your English will be just fine. For the benifit of us Canadians on the board you can type the odd AH! " A " at the End of the sentence this will make everything clearer. :) We are slowly teaching Mack76 and Rhys the English language I think when I post they actually understand what I'm trying to say :) Welcome again.
