I am installing my newly rebuilt 427 into my '68. The transmission and bellhousing were left in the car when the engine was removed. I have two issues that I am struggling with:
1) I cannot seem to get the engine to fully seat against the bellhousing. I have used the clutch alignment tool when I installed the clutch and pressure plate. No matter how I manuever the engine and bellhousing it won't fully seat. It is falling shy about 1/2". Any ideas, by the way I installed a new Centerforce dual friction clutch.
2) The transmission seems to be engaged even when the shifter is in neutral. As stated above the tranny wasn't removed from the car nor did I mess with the linkage. All I did was install a new tranny mount. If I push the car back and forth with the shifter in neutral I can watch the trannsmission input shaft spinning. If the tranny is in neutral shouldn't I be able to simply turn the input shaft by hand without engaging the driveshaft and turning the wheels?
Re: Help! Urgent! Need help on engine install (BB68Vett)
I would say to take the tranny out. You are wasting more time trying to do it the wrong way. I think only auto trannys should be left in the car. Make sure that you take the shifter out .
