Forum: I already used the search engine and couldn't find much. Now that my 74 is not my DD I can add some custom mods. I want to drop the f end about 2" for the aero benifits as well as "stance". I know that parking bumpers will tear off the spoiler and I will have to be more careful. I plan to use F/R adj Monosprings.I'm prepared to trim down the rubber stops, what else will I have to do?
I doubt that I will have to lower the R much. I want to run 275/40/17 and 305/40/18. I want to even out the ammount of exposed wheelwell like the TV customs. What am I getting into? TIA

I don't think you will fit that much tire in either the front or the rear without a lot of work. I have a 255/50/17 in the front of mine, and with the front lowered down to where the top of the tire and the fender opening are even, it's pretty full in there. You may get a bit more tire, but it will rub on tight turns.
For the rear, unless you go with off-set trailing arms or have a whole bunch hanging out, 275 fits nice, 285 hangs abit, 295 hangs out more and 305 looks like something from the 70's.
Taijutsu - I think that you need to do a poll on what front width & size tires work the best on our C-3's
I have 4 inch BS and the 26.2 - 27.8 with 255 width hit frame and sway on lock to lock.
When you get up to 27 ish inches it fills the wheel wells nice, but you better have a lighter front end with 550 front spring to keep from having tires hit the body.
Front tire width is debated on here by the racers like turtlevette. He uses 275 width. The Front I use 255/45/17 on 9 inch wheels. I know from a 1000 times of loosing control in turns that my front tires were not the cause 95% of the time. So I have never felt the need to go to 275 fronts. When i buy tires I try to get the smallest lack of tread pattern in Ultra high performance summer tires. A narrow slick has more traction than a wide mud and snow because of the amount of rubber on the road.
If my Vette doesn't make the turn is because I've done something stupid like loosing the brakes
I thought about trying to find some 2" drop spindles to lower the stance of the car but more importantly lower the center of gravity of the car. There are many things you can do to accomplish both. Drop spindles would be nice and easy if someone made some for our C3's...but they don't. Heard somewhere; maybe on here or at a car show to look into the Impala drop spindles as they might mate up to our C3 but I never did look into it. I've dropped the idea of messing with the spindles to a later date.
I believe only one person has modified the stock spindle and made it longer...but he doesn't frequent here much anymore. And that entailed a whole lot of experience and welding.
Start with picking the right springs or monospring and go from there.
George: OK I get it. I can go larger wheels/tires if I don't lower the car. If I lower the car, I can't go much wider due to less wheelwell? Is that about correct?
255/40/17 and 275/40/18 should have a nice rake as well as more rubber on the road.
Like most of us, I've put so much time/money into my car. If it doesn't look right, I'll feel played. Is that all, or am I missing anything else? TIA
