Does anyone know what type of plactic the coolant overflow resevior is? Mine has a small crack that is leaking. The crack is on the back side, so the repair will not be visible. I am trying to determine the best adhesive to use in the fix.
I've heard from the forum that some have been able to repair their tanks. However, I've tried and never had any success. If I were you, I'd just replace it...they're not that expensive.
There was a thread in here a week or so ago about that. I never have found an adhesive that would really work. But back in the day, I cut up a piece of milk jug and used Super Blue RTV to stick it on the back side under a mount ear to seal a crack, It wasn't pretty but it worked
My '73 reservoir and cap both had cracks as well. I replaced the old cap with a new one, cracked a little piece off of the old cap, scuffed (sandpaper)it, and the cracked area on the reservoir, thoroughly cleaned both, and sealed the crack externally with J-B weld on top of the patch. Sorta unorthodox, but it has held up well - even in Texas heat. Good luck
Unless it's a one-year-only unreproduced tank, I'd buy a new one...they're fairly cheap. If the plastic is fatigued enough for one crack, it's probably in bad enough shape to crack elsewhere.
