Headers and a true dual exhaust system will give you a good boost.

Where do you live? It would help us a lot for you to fill out your profile.

If you live in an emission strict state like CA you may have trouble enhancing the performance without making the car illegal.

Yeah, you, with the 502...that goes for you too.

Here is what I did to my 82 for performance upgrade. Gave away the Crossfire and replaced it with a ZZ4.

Here's my solution.....a 383 crate with Accel's SuperRam plennum and Calmap. Makes about 400HP.

This also made necessary the removal of the "Cross-Fire" badging.

Actually...you can do a few things to the CF within reason and make it perform well for what it is. It takes a little know how and patience.

I'm running a 383 CFI motor and it runs rather well at the moment. Of course you probably don't want to spend that much on the motor like I did or do the custom tuning either, but you still can do a good job at a lesser expense. Its all about how fast you wanna go and how deep your pockets are.

Swing on over to the Crossfire forum and learn the secrets of the CFI. http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/

You have a lot of options.

You can modify what you have.

You can replace what you have.

You can go small, go big, go carb, go EFI...

...it all depends on budget, and what your goal is.

Any ideas?

Im looking to do the same and I already have the exhaust installed. Im looking for computer friendly head and cam upgrade suggestions. I was told that heads 64cc with 170 runners would work well. I am afriad that 64cc may be too much compression for a stcok computer. I also know that comp cams makes 2 or 3 cams specifficaly for CFI but I am not sure what head/cam combo to go with.

i have an 85 fuel pump, and a hyper chip in mine.
supposedly the fuel pump gives it more gas at wot.
i say supposedly because it is my first vette, and have nothing to compare it to, although i believe i have seen mention of it on here before.

Check your local motor vehicle dept. to see what restrictions they have on cars 25 yrs. old and older. I had true duals installed without the cat and wow, what a difference. Also have Flowmaster 40's on this car. If you don't like a lot of noise, skip these. Also have the super chip installed.

Good luck with your car, Firefighter!

When I first got my '82 and frequented the Cross-Fire Forum, I believe some guys over-there were using 58cc aluminum heads from L98s, raising the squeeze even-higher, but I can't recall if they also made changes to the ECM:
although the L98 heads don't flow well at high RPM, neither-does a Cross-Fire intake, and while the individual pieces aren't impressive, I believe it was thought that they work-well together .

I think I was leaning-towards CompCams' #252AH-12 with the above cylinder heads before I decided to yank the CFI-entirely, but Marck's site has a wealth of knowledge.

You could go for the fancy EFI intakes, the motor swaps, put a carb on it, but......................

The best mod to do to a stock crossfire to get more performance from it is to install 3.73 gears in the rear end. It will give you the most bang for the buck so to say and you can really feel it in the seat of your pants.

Default Firefighter13 say's thanks

Thanks for the info... I have the stk gears 2.87 DANA...
I want to keep the crossfire intact but want to get as much out of it as possible... I no longer have to take through emissions here in wisconsin. Duals sound like a must... chip sounds ok... Can you put a litter better cam in it??? I know I'm limited by the injectors... It sure would be nice to have a kit for the crossfire to deliver some decent fuel... any more tips woud be great

Comp cams make a couple of cams especially for the crossfire.
Also its a good idea to swop your fuel pump from the standard one to a later 85 c4 one,its a straight foward swop and flows a lot better.
