Default Hood won't open/release

When trying to open our 1980 C3 hood yesterday only the drivers side latch released. How do we get the passengers side to release. What technique, or work around, can we use to get the hood open to determine the actual problem...broken cable, loose cable, etc?

No probs! Remember to use a shorter screw driver on the passengerside....if you have to do that side too...only about an inch in to hit the mark.

this happend to me and it wasnt the cable release that was stuck. the female latch on the hood was stuck on the pin, so i couldnt use those techniques to get it off.

i had to go underneath and had just enough room to get a wrench in the and loosen the hinge bolts.

it was tough but it finally worked.

good luck

For future reference, add an emergency cable. It will lay on the firewall and save you some pain if your cable ever breaks again..

Okay guys, I've pulled the release and again the driver side popped right up. However the passenger side is still down. I looked for the access holes and can pretty easily see the drivers hole. But no such luck on the passengers side. Could someone give me a reference point as to where I should be looking to see the passenger side access hole? Am I understanding correctly that I'll only need a short "stubby" slotted screwdriver with about 1 inch of blade? No need for a 4 or 6 inch regular screwdriver (not to mention a lack of working space...especially with my fat hands! LOL). And I'm going to move the screwdriver towards the center of the car to release the clasp...correct?

Raise your wipers and park em and look just to the inside of the passenger wiper and you should see the plug. Push it out and insert the screwdriver with the tip horizontal and just push. Don't twist or pry, just push.

On 78-82s(77 I think) just push. I made a special tool out of 3/4" wide aluminum stock, just to have on hand. You can see it in the pic about to hit the lever.
