Electrical Problem
My 79 seems too have a short. The car will turn over when the battery is charged. If I go driving around and stop the starter sounds like it doesn't have enough juice. I've checked the alternator and it seems too be doing the job. I've got dual electric fans and a stereo amp. The alternator is a 7935C Tuff Stuff 140 amp alternator one wire along with a optima battery, new battery cables. I did found the grounding cable off the engine block too the starter burnt from the hugger headers. I replaced it and ground it too the frame. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
That being the case, the starter might be getting heat soaked, it happens to some of them., Get a heat blanket for it and see if that does the trick
You have a drain going on, but it will not be the starter. That 1 wire alternator is a place to start looking.
Do you have a light bulb type test light? Disconnect the + battery cable and connect the light between the cable end and the + terminal on the battery. With the lights off, key off and doors closed the test light should Not light up, it it does you have a drain somewhere. Disconnect the alternator wire and retest, if thats not it start pulling fuses until the light goes out and you have found it. Annother suspect would be the ctsy light timer if your car has one.
