Default Brake calipers seals?

The seals in the bore, won't come out, is there a special tool for the job?, I have been hacking away at them, but they just start falling pieces, but the seal part that sits in the groove at the top of the bore, just wont move

anyone with ideas on how to solve this prob??

cheers

I assume you mean the boot. It's a metal ring with rubber overmolded then pressed into the caliper housing. Sounds like yours is well rusted in place. Going to take some penatrating oil and a few choice words to pry it out.

If you are talking about the dust boot, they can usually be pried out with a twist of a screw driver positioned between the metal portion of the dust boot and the caliper. The seals on the pistons can be taken off by stretching them with a wooden toothpick or something soft. I wouldn't use any metal object to remove these.

The dust seals should pop out pretty easily with a screwdriver. If yours are so bad that you can't get them to budge it might be time to swap them in for some rebuilt calipers.

The seals should come right out. Are these the original calipers? If so, trade them in. VBP is having a sale right now(mine will be here this week), if you trade up let them take care it

They don't come out easy unless you press the piston in as far as possible. Believe me, I was struggling with them last week.

Just press the pistons in with your finger, then use a screw driver to twist the boot.

Thanks for help guys, worked them out in the end, I didn't realize that the metal bit at top of bore came out as well, I thought that was part of caliper, not the boot seal! lol, no rust there, bores seem good

cheers
