I need to change my engine wiring harness. It's a mess and now I've got several shorts from deteriorated insulation.
I've got a 73 auto with air, but I'm also converted to HEI. My question is should I just get the engine harness for a 75 automatic with air? I've looked at the wiring diagrams and it looks like even the colors are the same. At least this way, I'll have the correct connector and wire for the distributor.
Go ahead and get the right harness, and ask if they'll sell the HEI plug separate. If not, M.A.D. has them, as well as the right crimp connectors that plug into the bulkhead connector. Did this with my 68
I purchased the harness for my 71 and then replaced the wire from the bulkhead to the distributor with this wire from Year One. You want to replace the original wire because it contains the resistor that drops the voltage on your points distributor. http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/h...G55790&Style=2 Part number L00510. Less than $10.

Paul,
Got the wire from Year One and the harness should be here on Saturday (they sent me the wrong one the first time). Which wire does this replace? The one for the positive on the coil?

Mr. Burns,
Yes, it replaces the wire that went to the positive side of the coil. It will be an easy change since you will have the new harness in front of you. Good Luck.
