I need to adjust my shifter linkage and need specs on the alignment gage or any other good info. I'm not trying to be cheap but If I can make the gage easilly then that's my preferred route. Thanks.
If you have the Haynes manual the dimensions are in there. If you don't have one I'll post the numbers for you if you like. Also, check your brackets that attach to the side to the trans (where the rods attach). Check for two sets of holes. If they are there then while you are adjusting you can setup your shifter for "short throw" application by using the other set of holes. I did it and highly recommend it. My 1st to second (and the other gears) distance is less and inch and a half. FUN FUN FUN.
1 inch long X 5/8 inches wide. It says to bevel the edges on the end to 45 degrees but I didn't and it worked fine.
Here is the text next to the picture:
"Shift linkage locking gauge diagram. You can make this tool from a steel putty knife - bend the blade 35 degrees at the notch so that it will fit along the floor pan for clearance."
I actually tried to make this out of a putty knife but when I went to bend it 35 degrees the knife broke. I used a thin piece of sheet metal that I had laying around my shop. I found it almost inpossible to install the gauge from the bottom so I took the shift plate and rubber seal out of the console to get at it from the top. Not easy but do-able.
Yes, I would say that to do it from underneath the car requires the removal of the left side exhaust. I personally, have had better luck from uncerneath the car than from the top (inside).
