This is one of those ? that is the result of me being very bored and not having anything better to do than surf the internet. and I get paid for this HAHAHA.. anyway I wanted to know if anyone has ever seen or done a suicide door kit on a C3 or if it is even possible due to the mounting point of the door hinges if one would do this. It looks like the rear of the door seal is primarily fiberglass but there might be some reinforcement back there. (Never pulled it apart so couldn't tell ya) anyway I think it would look neat if nothing else def a hot rod thing right now(think of all the 32 ford coupes) and I have been wondering for a while what it would be like.
The scissor doors in the photo are actually a bolt on kit that can be purchased for C3-C6 vettes. A suicide door would be a whole different animal. The birdcage does run down directly behind the rear door jam around the striker. It would be along this area that you would have to mount hinges and they would have to allow the door to swing out away from the quarter panel since they have no where to tuck in behind as they do in front. It sound like an interesting adventure. I've seen suicide doors on just about everything so I'm guessing it would be possible, just a lot of work.
Well for a guy that has got a few grand in debt (thank you divorce) I don't think I will be pursuing that adventure anytime soon, however it would be as you stated a very interesting adventure to pursue.
