i have heard different views...start it every 3-4 weeks until it reaches operating temp.,pull the battery and fog it., put it on stands.,no need to put it on stands????  what are your opinions...any horror stories? right now i have it on stands but not sure whether to start or not to start.i also read somewhere to run a light (40 watt?) and leave it on in the interior as opposed to putting in moisture bags(?) there are sidepipes on the car if that makes any difference.i remember when i was a kid and my bro had a 74 with pipes..they rusted out pretty fast..he used to go and start it every once in awhile..suggestions??
the worst thing you can do to a car is just start it up and idle it... you have to blow all the moisture out of the exahust. 5-10 miles is a good start up. Most engine wear accurs when the engine is cold and isnt getting warm oil... so you have to let it warm up before completly or not at all
Everyone has a different opinion on this but this is what I like to do:
1) Full tank of gas with fuel stabilizer. Run car a few minutes to make sure that it gets in lines and carb.
2) Change the oil and filter at the 3 month/3000 mile interval even if it falls during the time it is in storage.
3) Fill tires to correct pressure and make sure they stay at the correct pressure.
4) Take it for a good drive, at least 15-20 miles on warmer days when it is dry and there is no salt. DO NOT just start it up, let it idle for a few minutes and shut it off. This is what causes condensation that rusts mufflers and other parts. If you can't drive it and warm it up real good, just let it sit.
5) Check for mice and other critters that might try to make a home in your warm and cozy Vette.
