i have a 70 vette, T/T and when rebuilding the upper part of the steering column i noticed that the telescopic lever sticks out about 3/4 inch from the steering wheel. It doesnt look right and it wasnt like that before so im beginning to get frustrated. I dont know whats causing it? Any help?
Are you talking about the circular telescope locking lever #7 with the finger tab that you need to rotate CCW to unlock your telescoping column? This steering wheel and horn parts scan may assist in describing your problem.
The telescope locking lever is trapped between the steering wheel spokes and the upper horn contact #3. So it really can't be off by 3/4 inch. Its position is controlled by the height of the "star" screw #6.
Use the above scan to assist us in solving your problem.
yeah the star screw wont go in far enough to make the lever flush with the steering wheel. Im not sure why though. It tightens until the wheel locks but thats it
