Hi,
I've got a problem I can't seem to fix. While driving, sometimes when when I take my foot off the gas pedal the car just keeps going . It's like virtual cruise control LOL. If i put the clutch in and give it a little gas the RPMs will come down to where they're supposed to be. Something is sticking and can't figure out how to fix it. I took the air cleaner off and was thinking of replacing the spring (throttle spring?). Any ideas?
Thanks,
Paul
If you have anything but the original carb/intake/air cleaner there could also be interference with the carb/throttle linkage & the bottom of the air cleaner.
Also check for wear in the throttle plate where the throttle shaft comes through. Just slight wear at this point will prevent the shaft from closing completely.
Thanks all. I think it is the throttle linkage that is sticking. Is it just a matter of cleaning or lubing or something more? If it is something that needs to come apart i may have someone else take a look at it for me.
your mileage may vary, but when my throttle was sticking, the linkage was catching on the air cleaner base - actually it was the bracket on the side of the carb that was catching. So every time I stopped the car and took off the air cleaner to see what was going on I couldn't see the problem because I had removed the air cleaner! DUH!!! Once the problem was pointed out to me I just bent the linkage slightly. Doubling up on the spring helped the problem until I figured it out, but it was hard to maintain highway speed with the double springs and my foot got ver tired.
One last think if not linkage or the plate.
Mine was doing the same thing every now and then for about 2 weeks and then SNAP! The entire cable snapped.
When I pulled the old cable out it was all frayed and it was catching when I released the pedal.
Just another thing to consider.
Good Luck!
