Default 81 wiring help needed

On my diagnostic port under my ashtray. Has a problem in that the E port which is suppose to be a ground has allmost 12 volts running thru it. If anybody has an idea where that should ground or where the current is coming from. It would help me out a ton.

I'll try to help. Are you working from a GM shop manual? Is the E on the opposite end from the light blue wire and next to the test port(D)?Just want to make sure you have the ground port.Your system grounds are out on the engine-1 is on the pass. head(between the head and firewall)The other is up front around the coolant temp sensor between the air switching solenoid and the air pump.Black wires of course.
(Sixfooter knows this system better-maybe he will chime in.)

It must not be grounded at one of the system grounds-because if it was it would not have 12 volts. If your grounds come off it could be backfeeding through some sensors.

Make sure your diagnostic plug is not in backwards. Mine was. There should be a break between the 2 ports that are for the check engine light.
