Getting ready to redo the engine trans combo in my 1974. I have the following so far performer rpm manifold afr 195 heads Edelbrock 650 cfm carb. Want to get the following, 383 short block 9,6 to 1 compression performance rebuilt th 400 2500 stall. Roller camshaft. The objective here is to go for max torque and still remain streetable. I believe the rear end ratio is probably 3.08 So no help there. I just want to pick the right camshaft, and choose to go hydraulic roller for longevity over flat tappet woes. I am open to suggestions but do not wish to change rear end gears as I also want to take trips in this car. Just need to pick cam that gives maximum oomph without overdoing it. Can anybody help me here?

I'd vote for an xr-276 from comp cams. I use the hydraulic flat version in the 383 that's in my 71 El Camino with 10 to 1 and 200 cc intake runners. Same manifold. Same stall speed. I can smoke tires enough to get lots of tickets and my 383 is mismatched in my opinion due to compression and runner volume with my cam. I lost bottom end but it goes like hell in the midrange. Give me some good build details and I'll run it in desktop dyno for ya if you want.
