Just finished a frame off on my 78. I used a 79-80 frame with the bat wing and the rest of my 78 hardware. Just got back from a short trip around the block and it seems the half shaft knuckles are hitting the fiberglass battery compartment. It makes a thump-thump sound and I can see a small spot of paint missing on the u-joint knuckle on each side.
How do I fix this?
1) loosen all body mount bolts, remove bumper shims and try to shift body forward 1/4"?
2) grind the corners off the u-joint knuckles?
3) Any suggestion you guys have?
Thanks for the reply..
I removed the bumper shims in the rear. 3 on each side. Now it only makes the noise if I accelerate hard. If I hit the brakes, it goes away again. I'm going to accelerate into my driveway, hit the brakes, then tighten up all the body mounts again. Is there any better way to shift the body forward?
